Distance Learning

Let us bring a program to your students via interactive videoconferencing. Our curriculum-based program can be scheduled to suit your needs. Please contact us a minimum of three weeks in advance to discuss dates and times.

If you are looking for a special program to fit into your curriculum, let us know and we may be able to develop a program based on your needs. Conner Prairie can offer programs focused on history, sciences, humanities, language arts, fine arts and more!

For additional information on Distance Learning, call 317.776.6000 or email distancelearning@connerprairie.org. Conner Prairie connects via AVS, ISDN, and IP via IHETS. Conner Prairie can schedule many programs directly. Conner Prairie also partners with the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC). Programs

1836 School Days (Grades 1-4)
Experience school in 1836! Give your scholars this opportunity to interact with Conner Prairie’s schoolmaster or schoolmistress to learn ciphering, geography, civics and even manners—all loud-school style. If they learn their lessons quickly, time may allow for some period games.

1886 Liberty Corner School (Grades 3-6)
Learn what school was like in 1886! Attend school at the Liberty Corner District School #2. Teacher Flora Young will lead the class through opening exercises, lessons, chores and games.

Creating Communities (Grades 2-3)
Explore the needs of communities by using the village of 1836 Prairietown as an example. First, the natural resources of the area will be explored as your students develop a community. Then, the variety of Prairietown jobs will examine how goods and services are exchanged.

Fall Creek Massacre Trial (Grades 8-12)
On March 22, 1824, nine Seneca Indians were brutally murdered in what came to be known as the Fall Creek Massacre. You and your students will be the jury as the first defendant comes to trial. This trial marks the first time since the United States became a nation that a white man is tried for murdering an Indian.

Follow the North Star (Grades 5-8)
Learn about the Underground Railroad in 1836 Indiana. Participants role play fugitive slaves and interact with representative characters they may have met during their escape to freedom.

Sheep to Blanket (Grades K-1)
Follow the wool from the sheep to becoming a blanket. Learn the basics of shearing, dyeing, spinning and weaving.

Ways West: The Peopling of Indiana (Grades 4-5)
Join Conner Prairie educators and 1836 travelers for a program about the settling of Indiana. Learn who came and when they came, and the routes they took to get here. How did geography affect the settling? What different types of people moved to Indiana?

Woodland Indians: Art and Culture (Grades 2-8)
Modern-day members of the Delaware tribe from Oklahoma travel to Conner Prairie to present a special program on the history and culture of Native Americans in Indiana. If you can’t make it to Conner Prairie, enjoy parts of this program over distance learning! Dance, music and language will be demonstrated.
